So Saturday I had 2 photoshoots in downtown Chicago. Once I made it to the location with my first client I was getting everything setup and BAM! out of nowhere this lady showed up with a wedding group. I was like “that’s gonna be a perfect picture” until she pulled out this point and shoot camera, popped up the flash and went to snapping away. Now by this time I have my gear setup and people are starting to look at me then back at her like “what the F**K!” All I could do was give the typical shoulder shrug and started with my shoot.
Now I have people coming up to me asking for business cards and commenting on that lady. Being a photographer I wasn’t going to talk down about her, who knows whats going on in her life, she might have a family to support. So I kept doing my thing until it was time to move to the next location. Once we made it there, low and behold, some type of teenage “rights of passage” or an “extremely young newly married couple” was there and BAM! another photographer with another point and shoot camera popped up out of nowhere.
By now everyone in the group were screaming at the photographer “HEY LOOK THERE’S A REAL PHOTOGRAPHER OVER THERE” talking about me and they even turned and posed for me instead of their own photographer. This is something to be taken serious for the many photographer’s who make a living from their trade. If you want professional results you have to acquire a professional service, and if you just want pictures then be happy with what you have and try not to be disrespectful to whoever is helping you out.
